Bollywood: An Unassuming Little Movie

You know how it is…sometimes, only a dose of Bollywood will do.

But over 95% of what is churned out is simply a waste of time. Which is why I have had very little to watch (or write about on this topic) for ages. Too long!

Well last weekend I happened upon an unassuming little Bollywood movie that charmed me.

Here is the official trailer:

The name of the movie is a mouthful – Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, but the contents are quite delectable.

No big name stars, no big budgets, no item songs…but one critical thing that those others seem to skip, yet ultimately makes a movie worth the time – a good script.  Combine that with competent direction and you’ve got yourself some satisfying, if not fine, cinema.

Why is this simple formula so tough to follow in Bollywood?? Come on, it’s not like we’re aiming for Academy Award Hollywood fare! Our expectations are more realistic than that. We want something watchable, halfway intelligent and decent. That’s all.

It’s truly been a famine for me as far as good Bollywood entertainers. Happily, I found a little movie with heart that I could enjoy last weekend.

Now, it’s back to the next long wait for another good one to show up.  Sheeeesh!

Until then, go ahead and catch this one in the theaters if you’re in the mood for some sweet Bollywood.
